Violet, Round island is above the Soo Locks, toward Lake Superior. It is a very small island in the upper river, close to shore, off Birch Point and Cedar Point. It was built in 1855, same year as the locks, rebuilt in 1864, then probably abandoned as other lights were established. It was probably a front range light, as there was a wooden tower on Cedar Point (collapsed some years ago). And it is logical range lights would be used at that location for boats approaching the locks. From the foundation, it looks like there was a tower (probably not tall), maybe a house attached. It's hard to say, there is very little left of the foundation. But there are LOTS of seagulls! and boaters should know there are lots of rocks and bouldars in the water making it hazardous to approach. We've been looking for info for a long time, checking the regular sources, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! thanks!
