I've read the West Rigolets Light and Chandeleur Island Light in Louisiana were destroyed by Katrina. I've also read that the replica of the Ship Island Light in Mississippi was also destroyed. And, the New Canal Light in New Orleans was shifted on its foundation. Don't know what will happen there. The Galveston Jetty Light was dismantled a number of years ago. It wasn't much to see. The Cape St. George Light, near Appalachicola, Fla., fell into the gulf earlier this year. Lighthouses are vanishing faster in the Gulf of Mexico area than anywhere else in the U.S. It wasn't that long ago that the Round Island Light was lost. Katrina probably would have gotten it if It hadn't already fallen.
