The Lightship Huron, last and only lightship left from the great lakes, starboard main Detroit Diesel 671 engine was started and run to operating temperature this week. This engine has not run since the ship was taken off station in 1970. This is the third engine in a over-two-year project to return 4 of the ship's 6 engines to working condition. One of the ships 271's has been used since the ship opened as a museum to power a Worthington compressor for the Leslie SuperTyphon Fog Signal. Our aim is to have a fully-functioning engine room to provide a fuller experience for visitors.
