The nonprofit Save Our South Channel Lights Association (SOSCLA) is preparing to publish a history of the St. Clair Flats South Channel Range Lights. Starting with LaSalle and Father Hennepin in 1679, the book covers settlement of the region in the 1800s and construction of the lights in 1859. There is a service history of the lights, discussion of the “Teens," when they were used as a private club, and details of the site’s preservation. There are about 150 pages, including charts, tables and photographs and a detailed summary of work completed and planned. This is currently the definitive history of the lights. SOSCLA hopes to make copies available for purchase around $20. Anyone interested can contact SOSCL at firstname.lastname@example.org so that an initial print quantity can be established.
