Port Clinton - 1896
by Al Hart

In 1832, the United States Lighthouse Service purchased land east of the mouth of the Portage River for the purpose of building a lighthouse. Use of this lighthouse was discontinued in 1870. In 1896, a new Port Clinton lighthouse, as pictured, was constructed, which utilized a single kerosene lantern to provide navigation for up to six miles. In 1964, the top portion of this light was removed to Brand's Marina where it site today.
